Sixty-six per cent of women in Fiji have been beaten at least once in their life by their husbands or partners.

This figure has been revealed by the Fiji Women's Crisis Centre spokesperson Edwina Kotoisuva at the National Multi-Stakeholders Workshop to address Violence Against Women in Fiji.

In addition, thirty per cent of women have been repeatedly beaten and forty-four per cent have been hit while being pregnant by their husbands or partners.

Kotoisuva said in the year 2001, 941 domestic violence cases were recorded whereas in 2007, a decreased figure of 457 was recorded, however, she said the decreased figure does not reflect the real story.
