Transparency International Fiji remains deeply concerned that in the absence of Parliament, there is little opportunity for public exposure on Government expenditure.

Chairperson Suliana Siwatibau said public exposure on government expenditure is essential in a responsible government.

Siwatibau said this concern was conveyed to the Auditor General last year July and they are again calling on relevant authorities to introduce avenues for access to such information by the general public.

According to Siwatibau there is a desperate need for freedom of information provisions in Fiji.

However, Siwatibau said Transparency International Fiji is happy to note that the Auditor General will complete his investigation on the leave payment made to the interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama.

When contacted, Information Deputy Security Major Neumi Leweni said he will comment on the issue later today.
