An estimated loss of $54 million is incurred in agricultural thefts.

This is according to Fiji National University’s Asinate Moroca while addressing senior police officers at the Police Academy in Nasova earlier this afternoon on the topic of “Agriculture and livestock security on government perspective.”

Moroca said a major problem in the agriculture sector is that there is lack of expertise and capability to put into place policies and impose fines on agricultural thefts.

She said it is important that the Agriculture ministry works with police on this matter.
