The Fiji Kisan Sangh has welcomed the interim government's decision to abolish the drainage levy that was imposed on sugar cane farmers annually.

Sangh's General Secretary Kallu Dhani Ram said farmers were losing out financially over the past years by paying the drainage levy. He said they had requested the previous government to waiver the drainage levy, however, their calls fell on deaf ears.

He has complimented the Interim Finance and Sugar Minister Mahendra Chaudhry for giving full attention to the sugar industry which will see the industry moving forward.
