The Chief Registrar Ana Rokomokoti has refused to issue a practicing certificate to Abhay Singh to practice law in Fiji.

In a statement this afternoon, Rokomokoti said the conviction of Singh in 2004 forms the main basis for the decision as Singh was prosecuted for among other offences, attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Rokomokoti said she also took into account the guilty plea by Singh to the offence which was on his own accord.

The Chief Registrar said the offence was regarded by the High Court as a substantive offence and not an attempt.

Rokomokoti said relying on section 44(1) of the Legal Practitioners Decree 2009, Singh's application has been refused and he is no longer permitted to practice law.
