Australian High Commissioner to Fiji James Batley has denied reports in the Australian media that his government is now pushing for further sanctions against Fiji, including a sports boycott to force interim PM Frank Bainimarama to respect human rights and return the country to democratic rule.

The Australian Newspaper today reports that Prime Minister Kevin Rudd later this week will canvass a series of measures against Fiji when he visits PNG and Solomons and such moves would lead to the ousting of the Fiji rugby team from this year's Pacific Nations cup including a game against Australia A in Brisbane.

However, speaking to Village news Batley said no other sanctions have been put in place apart from the one that has been imposed after 5th December.
