Telecommunication giants, Amalagamated Telecom Holdings (ATH) Limited, has acquired majority ownership in Vodafone Fiji Limited from Telecom Fiji Limited.
Speaking to Fijivillage, ATH chief executive Tomasi Vakatora confirmed that the announcement follows the completion of the legal and regulatory processes and the change in ownership was effective from close of business on March 31st, 2008.
Vakatora said this step has been taken to separate Vodafone and Telecom Fiji due to the new telecommunication regulations in place and reflects ATH's continued confidence in the Vodafone group.
Vakatora added while this will also allow Telecom to venture into other services, it will have to remain out of the mobile phone sector for now.
Vodafone International Holdings retained its interests in Vodafone Fiji under the restructure.
