Ewen McKenzie could be installed as the new Wallabies coach as early as this week after the Lions 41-16 drubbing.

Australian Rugby Union is now planning to forking out $400,000 to sack Robbie Deans.

Deans is set to meet with the ARU today and an announcement regarding the Kiwi coach's future could come as soon as tomorrow.

Queensland's McKenzie is now the frontrunner to take over the job, ahead of Brumbies' Rugby World Cup winning coach Jake White.

Well connected rugby sources indicate the ARU's anxiety at paying out Deans's contract, after losing $18 million in the past two years, had been one of the reasons for being privately comfortable to let his six year reign expire at the end of the year.

Meanwhile, the Super rugby matches this Friday will see the Crusaders meeting the Hurricanes at 7:35pm while the Rebels host the Highlanders at 9:40pm.
