A Non Government Organization said with the introduction of the new Employment Relations Promulgation, women around the country will now breathe a sigh of relief.
Soqosoqo Vakamarama General Secretary, Adi Finau Tabakaucoro said the provision made for the women in the new regulation is long overdue as women have been fighting for this for a very long time.
Under the Employment Relations Promulgation the maternity leave laws will now allow women to have a family without having to face financial difficulties by not receiving their pay or losing their jobs.
Section 44 (1) of the ER Promulgation under Maternity leave states that a woman is entitled to the normal pay she would receive as if she had been at work for her first three births.
It further states that for the fourth and subsequent births a woman is entitled to half the normal pay she would receive as if she had been at work.
