Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama has stressed that Fiji is now witnessing the severe effect of the worst natural disaster Fiji has ever been through.
Commodore Bainimarama said that he has visited Nadi and the flood affected areas over the past few days and a lot still needs to be done to assist the people.
We now speak to Bainimarama about the natural disaster and the rehabilitation work starting from the West. Sir you have been to Nadi, what can you say about the jet set town as it is one of the worst affected areas as far as people, infrastructure, business and agriculture is concerned.
Now on relief assistance. We have been speaking to the people on the ground. What the worst affected people need right now is food and water. You are saying DISMAC and government agencies are working around the clock. Is this enough?
How do you feel that most of the foreign governments have channelled their aid to the Red Cross Society - knowing that Red Cross has today confirmed that under its mandate at the moment, it is not providing food rations unless it is declared a National Disaster. It is the worst natural disaster, are we doing enough, knowing that what people need right now is food and water?
Now there have been calls for the soldiers to assist in rehabilitation work. We have witnessed some soldiers now assisting in rehabilitation work. What is the military doing now to assist?
