A $9 million contract to construct two bridges along the Kings Road was signed yesterday between the government financier the Asian Development Bank and the China Railway 5th Group Company.

Director of National Roads Apisai Ketenilagi said the two bridges to be constructed will be the Naqia Bridge, Wainibuka in Tailevu and the Wainiboa Bridges near Rakiraki which is more than 100 meters long.

Ketenilagi said the China based contractor has proved itself following extensive construction of infrastructure facilities, providing of civil and engineering expertise and construction works around the country.

He added its part of the ongoing Nayavu/Rakiraki road works under the Fiji Road Upgrading Project stage 3

China Railway Group Company Project Manager Zhang Haichang said they were happy to be part the government's commitment to exploit and expose the rural sector=s economic viability.

The construction is expected to begin next month and will take 15 months to complete.
