Only 970 people will be assisted under the Social Assistance Trust Fund

That is the revelation from the Ministry of Mineral Resources Permanent Secretary Maria Matacewa.

Matacewa said that out of the 1,600 and 12 workers that were made redundant, only the other nine hundred will be helped, as over eight hundred have been re-employed by the Gold Mines.

Meanwhile, the type of assistance that will be given out to those made redundant will be decided once the Trust Fund Board is nominated after elections by the 12th of next month.

A total of $6 million has been set aside by the current owners of the mine Vatukoula Gold Mining company to assist the families made redundant by the sudden closing of the mines in 2006.
