A $9.5million project was launched today to help people in Fiji afford renewable energy products.

The Sustainable Energy Financing Project was launched today by the Department of Energy, ANZ Bank and the World Bank with the project supporting the financing of renewable energy electricity supplies for individual households, micro small businesses and the energy sector suppliers in Fiji.

World Bank Energy Sector Officer, Ana Tuionuku said power generation is heavily dependent on diesel mainly in rural areas with the cost getting worse as a result of the world crisis and thus renewable energy is now the way to go as it is cheaper and environment friendly.
