A total of 904 cases have tested positive for the Dengue 3 strain between 30th October last year and yesterday.

Acting Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Health Dr Metuisela Tuicakau revealed these statistics at the pre-launch of the Dengue Clean Up Campaign for the Central Division.

The Central Division is still reporting the highest number of cases with 766, the Western Division 101 with the Northern Division now reporting 37 cases.

Tuicakau said no severe dengue cases or deaths were reported.

Meanwhile the 2 month clean-up campaign for the Central Division will begin today, with council trucks collecting white goods within residential areas from Lami to Nausori.

To try and combat the Dengue-carrying mosquitoes the Health Unit also has a monitoring team on the ground to assess mosquito breeding places and carry out larvae sampling.

Similar clean up campaigns are also being organized for the West and the North.

The public are also being reminded that aside from the insecticide spraying that is being done at the moment, the destroying of mosquito breeding sources need to continue.
