$900,000 promised
This revelation was made during the launching of the Foundation by the Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama over the weekend.
Bainimarama in addressing guests at the launching urged business houses to take advantage of the incentives Government has set up as they will also be assisting the needy.
In taking the lead, Bainimarama and his wife have pledged $1,000 a year to the Foundation until 2014.
Bainimarama also told the guests that the Foundation is in line with the People's Charter for Change that will see the needy in society getting the much needed assistance for economic stability.
He added that the Foundation will assist the poorest of society to get out of the clutches of poverty.
On Friday, two companies, J.W Holdings Limited and Sigatoka Electric Limited, donated $120,000 to the Foundation while the Government donated $200,000 seed money.
As a result, a total of 1,011 students will be given scholarships by FENC this year and will start receiving the assistance in the form of school fees and such help, from tomorrow.
