9 year old allegedly raped
This after a 9yr old class three student of Lami was allegedly raped over a period of time by her 50yr old grandfather this year.
The 50yr old grandfather has been charged with five counts of rape and will appear in the Suva Magistrates court on tomorrow.
It is alleged that he committed the offence between January and October this year. The girl reported the matter to one of her relatives, who then took the matter to police.
Also, an 80yr old woman was also allegedly raped by a 22yr old man in Navua. The man has been charged by Police and remains in custody.
Police Assistant Spokesperson, Sergeant Atunaisa Sokomuri said it’s very disturbing to see that the very people who need care and protection are being victimized.
Meanwhile, Ba police are still looking for the driver of a vehicle who was involved in a hit and run accident in Tuvu Ba, which claimed the life of a minivan driver on Thursday night.
Divisional Traffic Officer Western, ASP Pita Ledua said they are working on some information however they still need public assistance.
The victim's body was found a few meters away from his van and police believe he went to relieve himself when he was hit by the vehicle. The body was found by another driver who was on his way home.
