Nine out of ten tsunami warnings do not eventuate, but that does not mean that we should be complacent.
This is what the Chairman of the Fiji Tsunami Working Group and Weather Office Director Rajendra Prasad said following several complaints that yesterday's tsunami warning caused unnecessary panic, which led to congested streets and early closure of schools and businesses.
Prasad said it is better to take precautions to avoid a major disaster from happening.
Prasad added that next week all stakeholders will be meeting to see how they can also reduce unnecessary panic during times of a disaster.
