9 missing at sea
A 51 yrea old woman and her 18 year old son from Lami went fishing in a white fibre glass boat in the Suva waters yesterday afternoon and had not returned home by the evening.
A search was conducted and Police found a mobile phone, a bucket and a pair of socks floating in the Sea near Naqara Island.
Assistant Police Spokesperson Sergeant Suliano Tevita said they believe the items belonged to the woman and her son.
He added the boat could have capsized.
A search and rescue team is currently searching for the two.
In another case, 7 people who left Suva for Lamiti in Gau have also been missing at sea.
According to Police, at 10 o'clock last night they received a call from the people on board that they were experiencing engine problems and they were drifting near the Koro seas.
Police could not contact them after that call.
Sergeant Tevita is calling on mariners and people living in coastal areas to look out for these people and should they have any information about them to contact their nearest Police station.
