An unemployed 26-year-old man was yesterday sentence by the Navua Magistrates Court yesterday to 9 months in prison for trespassing and assault charges.

The court was told that on the 26th of August, 2006, David Holmes of Navua was walking along the road when he heard laughing from a nearby house.

Holmes than went inside the house and pulled out a child from the house and assaulted him with a wooden stick which resulted in the child getting seriously injured.

When asked in court for the reason for his actions, Holmes said he thought the child was laughing at him.

Holmes is currently serving a suspended sentence for criminal intimidation and for being in possession of illicit drugs.

Magistrate Ana Rokomokoti sentenced Holmes to two months for trespass and 9 months for acting with intent to cause grievous harm which has to be served concurrently.
