The Road infrastructure in the Northern and Eastern Division has suffered extensive damage with an estimated $8.6 million worth of damage so far recorded.

According to the latest DISMAC situation report, the initial phase of Preliminary and Initial Damage assessment has been completed with  the Northern Division recording exactly four millionin damages while the Lau group recorded $2.8 million and the Lomaiviti group registering $1.87 million worth of damage.

This damage included damage to the various jetties and causeways along with road networks.

However, DISMAC is yet to rural water and electrification schemes are yet to be estimated as assessments are still underway.

The overall cost of damage continues to rise as DISMAC has now taken damage to telecommunication into account with the overall estimated cost of damage sitting at over $35.3 million.

It is expected that this figure may rise as assessment work is still being carried out in certain sectors.
