The National Disaster Centre is now calling on all people staying in squatter settlements and areas near rivers to move the 8 evacuation centres set up around the country.

Acting Director Paijiliai Dobui said they have been receiving reports of people fleeing from their homes and added that their advice to the public is to move right now before the situation worsens.

Dobui added that with the Central Division having the highest population in the country, it is wise that people staying in squatter settlements start moving to safer houses.

Flood waters have now started to enter parts of Rakiraki town.

DISMAC Operations Center Western Nacanieli Lomani confirmed that all evacuation centers throughout the Western Division are now open and people are being advised to utilize them.
