Eight children below the age of five lost their lives in drowning incidents so far this year. 

This was reveled by Water Safety Council committee member Bronwyn Soko who said these children were left unsupervised in or around the water.

She also revealed that while the total number of drowning cases currently stands at 43, the Western Division recorded the highest number of drowning fatalities with 16 cases.

Out of these 16 cases, seven people drowned in Lautoka.
