The Ministry of Health has confirmed 8 cases of diarrhea has been reported on Taveya Island, North of Vanua Levu.

Spokesperson Iliesa Tora said the cases were picked up by Red Cross and were reported to the DISMAC Office.

Tora said they have sent a team to the Island today and they have treated all the cases.

According to Tora, of the 8 there were three who had bloody diarrhea.

One of the 3 is currently admitted and being monitored at the Wainikoro Health Centre in Vanua Levu.

The other 7 cases are now stable after receiving treatment.

The Ministry has advised to boil all drinking water, cover cooked food to stop flies, cockroaches and rats from getting to them, washing of hands with soap and water, keeping the toilet clean all the time, keeping your house and compound clean, collecting empty cans, tins and old tires.

Tora added the Ministry of Health is concerned that there are risks of possible outbreaks of communicable diseases at this time.
