Eight Sigatoka villagers are in police custody in relation to an alleged brawl between them and a group of security officers guarding an area yesterday morning.
Assistant Police Spokesperson, Sergeant Atunaisa Sokomuri has confirmed that police are still guarding the premises while the villagers arrested are being questioned.
Meanwhile, the drowning death toll now stands at 45 compared to 42 last year.
This is after a swimming party turned ugly over the weekend when a primary school student became the latest drowning victim in the Nawaka River in Nadi on Saturday.
Sokomuri said the 7yr old student went swimming with his friends - his body was found floating in the river by his friends.
Also, a man is fighting for his life at Nadi Hospital after the car he was travelling in veered off and tumbled on the road on Saturday night in Nadi back road.
Director Traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra said the tyres burst following which the driver lost control of the vehicle which veered off the road and tumbled.
Mishra has urged drivers to conduct proper checks on the vehicles before going on our roads and to be careful when driving during this wet weather.
