8 LTA staff involved in alleged scam
Fijivillage news has received information that the officials under investigation are alleged to have colluded to process and approve mini bus licenses without following the proper procedures.
According to information received by Fijivillage news, the internal audit into LTA also found that vehicles were transferred to new owners without proper procedures, illegal renewals of license and vehicle registrations and illegal passing of vehicles.
Reliable sources say the matter was also highlighted in the internal audit report when the auditors discovered discrepancies between the revenue generated and the number of licenses issued.
It has also been confirmed that investigations into LTA also involve complaints from members of the public.
This included allegations from some taxi and mini bus drivers who have alleged that they have been victimized by LTA officers during spot checks.
The Police Commissioner Commodore Esala Teleni told Fijivillage news earlier today that more details regarding the investigation will be released in the next few days.
The Transport Ministry also confirmed that a number of LTA officials have been taken in for questioning by police and all they could confirm is that the investigations into the audit report at LTA involved illegal mini bus operations.
