7’s team lacks experience-Serevi
Speaking to Village sports, Serevi said there were too many new players in the team, and the old hands on deck would have given them the edge.
However, Fiji 7s coach Joe Savou said when the team was announced none of the experienced players were available - as they were still tied up with club commitments and the selectors had to rely on the players available.
Savou recalls that having experienced players does not guarantee a win as we lost to Wales last year with a star studded side and that cost us the IRB 7s series title.
After the Wellington 7s, New Zealand lead the series points table with 60 points, followed by Fiji with 36 and South Africa is in third place with 32.
The San Diego tournament will be held this weekend and Fiji are in Pool B with Australia, West Indies and Samoa. Fiji will meet Australia in their first pool game at 8:12am Sunday.
Then they take on West Indies at 11:18 and meet Samoa in their last pool game at 2:46pm.
