Digicel Fiji 7s players have again missed out on being nominated for the IRB 7s Player of the Year Award.

This could be the result of their poor performance in the IRB World 7s Series this season although they won in Wellington in February.

Even no New Zealand players were short-listed for the award and they are in the run with Samoa to win this year's series.

The International Rugby Board has named three Samoan players in its shortlist of four nominees for the seven's player of the year award.

Alafoti Fa'osiliva, Lolo Lui and Mikaele Pesamino have all earned nominations following the country's dominance in this year's World Series, following wins in Las Vegas, Adelaide and Hong Kong.

However Samoa 7s coach Stephen Betham said that despite this his team still has to work extra hard in Edinburgh if they want to clinch the IRB series title.
