The Ministry of Transport, Works and Energy has confirmed that 79 percent of employees remain at work around the country after the members of the FITCU unions walked off their jobs this morning.
After conducting a survey of the attendance, it has been confirmed that out of the 3369 workers in the Transport Works and Energy Department, 865 are absent from and deemed to be on strike.
The highest number of employees who walked off their jobs are from the Public works Department with 586 off the 1550 workers on strike.
228 out of the 1117 workers from the Roads Department are on strike, while in the Transport Department 50 of the 660 employees have gone on strike. Only one worker from the Energy department off the 42 staff walked off this morning.
The Ministry stresses that with the current work force services are expected to continue with minimal disruptions in all divisions.
Meanwhile, most unestablished workers of the Water Department in the Western and Northern Division have opted to stay at work.
Water Supply Department Supervisors in Sigatoka, Nadi, Ba, Tavua, Rakiraki, Sigatoka, Levuka, Savusavu and Labasa have confirmed that workers have not gone on strike although some are union members.
In Deuba, 80% of workers from the water department are picketing at Taunovo road depot as more workers are expected to join soon.
In Lautoka, all the project workers are on strike
