The Consumer Council of Fiji has received 76 complaints on electrical goods for the first six months of this year.

Council Chief Executive, Premila Kumar said last year a total of 129 complaints were received and they expect the figure to rise this year.

Majority of the complaints on electrical goods relate to poor after sale service which includes traders unwilling to repair or replace faulty products, not having the required spare parts for products, appliances breaking down hours after repairs and retailers not willing to repair items still under warranty.

Kumar claimed that some traders sell obsolete electrical goods which have been phased out by the manufacturer and this can cause problems when the spare-parts are not available when the item requires repair.

She has called on people not to be lured by low prices and to thoroughly find out about the product before buying it.
