716 people at 32 evacuation centres
DISMAC said 396 adults and 322 children are at the centres in Ba, Tavua, Nadi and Nadroga.
The advice to the people in the Western Division is that things are not expected to improve today.
People are advised to take all precautionary measures as there are clear signs now that heavy rain and thunderstorms will continue in the West today and tomorrow.
The Nadi Weather Office said heavy rain is expected in Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Navua, Suva, Nausori, Labasa and Savusavu.
Flooding of low lying areas is expected.
Looking at the situation report from Nadi which is badly affected by the flooding:
Some residents of Vuniyasi, Nadi, are returning to their homes to ascertain the damages as flood waters have receded in some parts of Vuniyasi.
A resident Nasir Ali said only five homes which are on higher ground are not affected while more than 20 houses were affected by flood waters until this morning.
Ali said he has to start all over again as most of his items are damaged.
They still have power and water supply.
In Navakai, Nadi, a resident Surila said flood waters are slowly receding but about 45 houses are still flooded.
Surila said they were not able to save any belongings apart from the food items as they did not expect the weather situation to worsen to this level.
Ten families in Korovuto, Nadi, were rescued in a boat after flood waters reached their homes following the 7am high tide this morning.
A resident Mrs Narayan said more than 50 people have been affected including children aged three years old.
She said these children have been left in the care of their relatives while parents are standing watching their belongings floating in the flood waters.
Mrs Narayan said they have been providing tea to the affected people.
Meanwhile, 12 houses are under water in Malolo Transmitter Road while some people whose houses are on piles, are still in their homes.
The low lying areas and some roads in Sabeto are flooded; Nadi Back Road is closed to all traffic, Narewa Village is flooded and Momi Village is also flooded.
Other areas affected are Nawaicoba Road, Korociri Settlement, Saravi Settlement and Navakai Settlement.
District Officer Nadi Peni Koro said the town is surrounded by flood waters and they will assess damages after the waters recede.
Koro said efforts are also being made to assist tourists who are stranded in Nadi and have a flight to catch this evening.
Meanwhile, a Togomasi, Nadi, resident Vinay Chand said a man who was trying to cross a flooded road in his vehicle had started to drift when his engine developed mechanical problems.
However, he said that some people assisted the driver who is now safe.
Tourists and guests staying at Denarau Island are being transported to the airport by four wheel drive vehicles.
One of the hotel managers and a resident of Narewa Village Kaliova Nabulagi confirmed Denarau Road is flooded.
