The High Court today sentenced Peniasi Tirikula to 7 years imprisonment after being found guilty of robbery with violence.

Judge Justice Nazhat Shameem told the court that on the 24th of April 2006, Tirikula along with three others robbed Michael Hamid Ali and his wife Sue Gong Joo Ha of Lami of assorted goods as well as cash to the total value of $2,800.

Justice Shameem says she along with the three assessors found no difficulties in coming up with the sentence as the victims were elderly, and also that Tirikula had previous convictions in 2001 with the similar offence of robbery and violence.

She adds considering that the four men attacked Michael Ali who was 78years old, and despite his mitigation of having a difficult childhood, it does not excuse the attack on the elderly couple and labeled it a reprehensible event.
