Seven companies have so far expressed their interest in the government=s $30 Food Voucher scheme.

Permanent Secretary for National Planning Pita Wise said the applications for expression of interest closed on the 16th of last month with the Ministry receiving 7 applications.

He said they are now assessing the applications and trying to get the best deal for the scheme.

Wise said the Ministry is currently trying to get everything finalised so that when the vouchers are released this month, people can start using their vouchers for February and March.

Wise adds that the Ministry wants the best deal for people.

He said they are looking at starting the scheme at the end of this month and once finalised they will talk to the Prime Minister and Attorney General before the vouchers are distributed to the people listed under the Family Assistance Scheme.
