A 6-year-old boy has lost his life as a result of gunshot wounds while a 14-year-old is still admitted at the Lautoka Hospital.

The incident occurred at around 6pm yesterday at Sabeto Hill, Nadi.

Investigations are underway to ascertain what had actually happened.

The 6-year-old who was from Auckland, had come to Fiji with his family as they are currently constructing their home at the site of the incident.

The boy had accompanied a relative who is the owner of the licensed gun used for shooting wild goats and pigs.

The 6-year-old’s parents and relatives were inspecting the house when they heard the sound of a gunshot and upon rushing to the vehicle where the gun was kept they saw the two children injured.

They were then rushed to hospital.

The 6-year-old was pronounced dead on arrival while the 14-year-old student of Nadi is admitted at the Lautoka Hospital in critical condition.

Statements of the construction workers have been taken while the owner of the gun is still in custody for interrogation.
