In what officials have called a worrying trend, 65 students were booked for smoking in public vehicles during various Zone meets.

In a joint operation between the LTA and the Tobacco Control Unit which targeted buses which were on their way to the National Stadium as well as other sporting venues, the highest number of students booked were from the Zone 2 meet, with 32 students while 24 students were booked during the Zone 1 meet.

Seven students were booked during the Triple N while two bookings were recorded for the Tailevu Zone.

The highest number of students booked from one school was 11.

Officials say they will be out again to crack down on these students who continue to disregard the law.

Students were booked with a $50 spot fine and told to pay within 21 days.
