Six people are still being questioned by police in relation to their alleged involvement in aiding the five prisoners who escaped from Naboro Medium Facility last Monday.
The six are currently in custody.
The last escapee, Isoa Waqa was caught in Laqere at 3.30 this morning.
He was in a taxi and the driver is also being questioned.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Rusiate Tudravu said Waqa is in police custody while the four prisoners who were recaptured last Friday are admitted in hospital.
ACP Tudravu also confirmed that the four were resisting arrest when they were cornered on the island off Uduya Point during the joint police/military and Corrections Services operation.
On to investigations in relation to the prison breakout:
ACP Tudravu confirmed that they have interviewed one of the prison guards on duty on Monday night when the five escaped from Naboro.
Fiji Corrections Services spokesperson, Ana Tamani confirms that they have interviewed three prison guards who were on duty when the prison break took place at about 8.30pm.
Tamani said they are expected to wrap up their investigations by the end of this week and the public will then be informed about the outcome.
Tamani has already confirmed that some changes are expected as the department is concerned about the increasing number of contrabands going into prisons.
She said contrabands including simcards, mobile phones and tobacco were seized a few days ago following searches in the Nasinu, Suva Corrections Centres and the Naboro Maximum, Medium, Minimum and Pre-release Centre.
Tamani said they have established that these contrabands are taken in by the visitors and given to the prison inmates.
Commissioner of Corrections, Lt Colonel Ifereimi Vasu has decided that visitation to all inmates will soon be limited to once a fortnight and revert to the previous practice of once a month if the issue of contrabands is not stopped. Visitations to inmates are currently held every Saturday.
ACP Tudravu also confirmed that police are investigating this matter and they will prove through investigations how the visitors smuggled contrabands into the prisons.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Information Permanent Secretary Sharon Smith Johns said government does not condone the excessive force used in the apprehension of recaptured prisoners who escaped from Naboro Prison on Monday night.
She added that such incidents are unfortunate and the government makes it clear that behaviour of this nature is unacceptable and they are investigating the circumstances.
