Police are raising concern after a five year old became the latest road accident victim today.
Police Assistant Spokesperson, Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said that it is the responsibility of parents and guardians to teach young ones the basic road rules and also not to play while walking on the road.
Sokomuri revealed at around 2.30pm in Draunibota in Lami, the five year old was walking along the road with his parents and three siblings when he suddenly ran across the road and was hit by a twin cab and died instantly.
Sokomuri said that this is very worrying as the fatality has taken the road death toll up to 40 compared to 29 for the same period last year.
He added that of the 39 victims, 18 were pedestrians and half of these were children under the age of 10 years.
Meanwhile, Director Traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra reiterates that parents, guardians and even community leaders and village heads should take a pro-active stand now as the Festive season draws near.
