Fifty-seven employees working at the Nasinu and Lomolomo Quarry in Nadi will lose their jobs and receive redundancy packages following the closure of both quarries at the end of this month.

Fiji Roads Authority Chief Executive Officer, Neil Cook said since the establishment of the Fiji Roads Authority, assessments were carried out to determine the viability of both quarries including the high costs of business operations.

While emphasizing the minimal revenue delivered by both quarries, Cook said maintaining the plants including obsolete equipment at both sites would require massive financial expenses that will out-weigh any profit.

The employees will receive a redundancy payout in accordance with the redundancy payment guidelines of the Public Service Commission and other policy decisions of the Fiji Roads Authority Board.
