A 55 year old man is the country's first road fatality victim following an accident along the Hibiscus Highway, Savusavu yesterday.
Police say the incident happened at 2pm when the taxi the victim was traveling in allegedly went off the road hitting a culvert post causing it to overturn.
He was rushed to the Savusavu hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The taxi driver is in custody while the vehicle will be taken to LTA for inspection.
A post mortem will be conducted as investigations continue.
