527 new teachers will be employed by the Ministry of Education this year.
Education Minister Dr. Mahendra Reddy says out of 527 teachers, 375 will be absorbed in the primary schools while 152 will be taken in the secondary schools.
There is also good news for teachers who will be serving in the rural schools from this year as they can expect an increment in their allowance from the next pay.
Reddy today announced that for single teachers their allowance will be increased to $2,400 from $1,200 per annum while the allowance for married teachers is increased to $3,600 from $1,800 per annum.
Reddy says there are some teachers who do not want to go to the rural areas.
He says the Ministry’s development plan this year includes maintenance work on the teachers quarters and providing proper water and electricity services.
