A 52 year old father of 3 was sentenced to three and a half years by Judge Justice, Salesi Temo yesterday after he admitted to the charge of attempting to rape a woman after a grog session.

Samu Samoi on the 24th of April this year at Wailoku attended a pre-wedding gathering at Tamavua i wai with the complainant and others from 7pm to 12am. At midnight Samoi decided to go home by taking a short-cut through the mangrove to Wailoku accompanied by the 30 year old woman.

The court heard while walking home together, Samoi wanted to have sex with her but she refused politely.

He then attacked her by punching her repeatedly, swore at her and she became unconscious.

Judge Temo told the accused the aggravating factors were serious as he breached the woman=s trust as they were neighbours and he showed no mercy on her and caused her injuries.

The man was jailed for three and a half years.
