“Five year old, Alena Grace was a spirited child in her village and school and out of all the granddaughters she was the one who always got a lot of attention as she mingled with everyone.”

These are the words of Maikeli Loko, a relative of Alena Grace who lost her life in a tragic incident in Visama, Nakelo on Friday afternoon.

Grace and her grandfather were trying to cross a flooded creek on a log when they were swept away by strong currents.

Loko said his wife who returned from England two weeks ago had brought a surprise present for Grace.

Loko said whenever Grace used to visit their place, she would wear the dress which was brought for her from England.

He said Grace was different from other granddaughters as she was always very thankful whenever she received anything.

Loko said he will also miss his 54-year-old brother, Jovesa Rabativesi who recently got promoted as a Warrant officer Class Two after returning from a two week camp at the Queen Elizabeth barracks.

Loko said Rabativesi, his wife and Grace had gone for fishing and decided to cross the creek on a log after they could not catch any fish.

Loko said Rabativesi who was carrying the girl slipped in the creek which was flooded.

Rabativesi’s body was found in the creek on Saturday while the villagers managed to find the five-year-old girl’s body yesterday.
