With Day One of the Uprising International Sevens drawing to a close, 6 teams have booked their places in the Cup quarterfinals.

They are defending champion FWCC Red Rock, URF Wardens, Jim Beam Uprising, LICI Army, LICI Police and FMF Fiji Warriors.

FWCC Red Rock beat Samoa Invitational 28-12 and they earlier thrashed the Ilivasi Tabua coached Island Breeze 40-0.

The Samoa side featured Mikaele Pesamino and other Samoan reps like Leslie Poulava and Simaika Mikaele however the Red Rock side proved too strong for them and veteran Marika Vunibaka made the difference for the Red Rock side.

Other teams that have won two pool games so far include LICI Police.

They beat Samurai Barracudas by 21-10 and Digicel Fiji Barbarians by 24-19.

LICI Police beat Jokhan Realtors Marist 29-7.

URF Wardens, captained by Apisai Nayabo, also registered three wins beating FMF Fiji Warriors 27-14, and then Auckland Invitational 19-5.

URF Wardens also beat Courts Ratu Filise by 42-12.

Surprisingly the host team Jim Beam Uprising with least popular profile players have won three of their pool games, creating two major upsets today by first beating Samoa Invitational by 19-7 and also defending champions FWCC Red Rock by 29-5.

In their other pool game they thrashed Island Breeze 38-0.

The LICI Army side, laced with the likes of Napolioni Naulia, Waqabaca Kotobalavu and Nikola Matawalu, beat URF International by 20-5 and thumped the Aussie Thunderbolts 27-0.

LICI Army also defeated Blue Gas Lautoka 47-10.

Looking at some of the results from today’s games, the Digicel Fiji Barbarians with the likes of Setefano Cakau, Dale Tonawai and Osea Kolinisau beat Jokhan Realtors Marist 24-5 but lost to LICI Police with the likes of Sakenasa Aca, Etonia Naba and Peni Gaunimeke by 24-19.

Courts Ratu Filise, with brothers Kaliova and Leveni Tani, who caused an upset earlier by beating Auckland 15-0, later lost to Samoa Invitational by 21-5.

Recent results, FMF Fiji Warriors defeated Auckland Invitational by 24-19.
