There are five different measures put in place to try and prevent one from getting sexually transmitted infections.

According to Adolescent Health Development Centre Clinic Nurse Sitiveni Tuvou, one must have the A to E measures with A being Abstinence, B - Be faithful to one partner, C- Condoms, D- Do other things apart from penetrative sex and E - Education.

Tuvou said these must be practiced as nowadays risk behaviour occurs often especially when alcohol and other drugs lower inhibitions and affects judgment, leaving you vulnerable to unsafe sex.

From July to December 2008, a total of 536 STI cases were seen by the Adolescent Centre alone which included cases of gonorrhea, syphilis and chlamydia.

Current figures are still being compiled.
