There is a possibility of having more than 5 cyclones in the country if the El-Nino period prolongs this year.
These are the words of the Meteorology Director, Rajendra Prasad who said that El-Nino that starts in August can produce quite a few cyclones if it enters the cyclone season.
Prasad said a weak to moderate El Nino effect is expected to develop and its immediate effects will be low to below average rainfall faced in certain parts of the country.
Meanwhile, the Water Department is now working on a major plan to counter the El Nino effect which may cause below average rainfall in two months resulting in low water levels at the reservoirs.
Spokesperson, Sainiana Waqainabete said the ministry is preparing for the worst scenario.
