An average of 5 civil servants are investigated a month for abuse of office being looked into by the Public Service Commission.

This was revealed by Permanent Secretary for the Public Service Commission Parmesh Chand after questions were raised as to how civil servants were disciplined.

Chand said that investigations against civil servants have been ongoing since 2007, as allegations continue to pop up however he said the important point is that there needs to be evidence before any step is taken.

This follows concerns raised in the 2006 Public Account Committee Report highlighting that one of the actions taken was the fact that the civil servant would be transferred to another department.

However, Chand stressed that as the investigating body, they are continually going through reports and allegations of abuse of office.
