Two men and three women charged with the alleged abduction and rape of a 23 year old girl appeared in a special court sitting in Suva this morning.

The five who appeared before Magistrate Kaweendra Nayankkara are charged with two counts of rape, abduction, act with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

It is alleged that the five people including three men and two women abducted a 23-year-old girl at Queen Elizabeth Drive between 6pm and 9.30pm on Monday.

It is alleged that the offence was committed in the van while the five were on their way to Nausori and they later dumped the girl in Raralevu Nausori.

The girl later reported the matter to Police.

It is alleged that the abduction was pre-planned and a result of a family dispute.

The five aged 45, 33, 28 and two 25 year olds asked for bail which was strongly objected to by Police Prosecutor Inspector Iowane Lautabui.

The five have been remanded in custody till next Friday when the matter is expected to be called in the High Court.
