A 4 year old child's body was found floating in the Nakama River in Labasa yesterday afternoon.
Police say the incident occurred at around 3pm during a swimming trip with her family at a river near their home at Waiqele, Labasa.
Police say the victim had been swimming in the Nakama River with her siblings when her father discovered her missing.
A search was conducted and her body was found floating 80 meters away.
The drowning toll currently stands at 1 compared to nil for the same period last year.
This is the second child to be a victim of drowning in less than a week into the New Year.
