Its day four of power blackout for one of the main towns which is located meters away from Suva and there is still no confirmation on when power will be restored in the area.
Residents and business houses in Lami have been experiencing the power blackout since lunch time Monday.
Lami Town Council Chief Executive Priya Ieli said the council has been in constant contact with the Fiji Electricity Authority (FEA) and was informed that power will be restored at the earliest by tomorrow.
Leli addd that at the moment all the residents and small businesses are at the mercy of FEA with other larger businesses using backup generators.
Meanwhile, Fijivillage spoke to an employee of a shopping outlet in Lami and she informed us that the health inspectors visited them yesterday and informed their manager that they would have to get rid of all their frozen food if power is not back by midnight last night.
When asked whether a deadline was given out to the business houses in Lami, Leli said the frozen stock has to be disposed off today.
At the moment the management of FEA is in a meeting to look into the issue of power cuts as a result of Tropical Cyclone Mick.
FEA Chief Executive Hasmukh Patel earlier said that they are prioritizing power restoration to water pumping stations, sewerage plants, hospitals and to all the central business districts around the country, after which work will be done to restore power in other parts of the divisions.
