The Operations Center in the Western Division has confirmed that over 474 employees of the Water Supply department are on strike today.
These workers are members of the Public Employees Union and Viti National Union of Taukei Workers. Officials say about two thousand and 68 workers were expected to go on strike in the Western Division, however 1 thousand 5 hundred and 67 union members are still working. Majority of the workers on strike are from Lautoka.
In Deuba, about 30 workers are on strike which is 80% of the total workforce and these members are still picketing at Taunovo Road depot as more workers are expected to join soon.
The Water Supply Department in Sigatoka, Nadi, Ba, Tavua, Rakiraki, Levuka, Savusavu and Labasa have confirmed that none of the workers have gone on strike.
