A fixed amount is yet to be put on the amount the Interim Government will be allocating for rehabilitation and relief work following Cyclone Gene after Cabinet was recently informed of the damage assessment.
Permanent Secretary for Provincial Development Manasa Vaniqi said even though relief efforts are underway, cabinet is looking into the final amount.
Cabinet has been informed that an estimated $45 million would be needed for relief efforts alone.
DISMAC had earlier revealed that the cost of damage totaled to close to 45 million. This is for damages to the Agriculture sector, roads, Health, Housing, Education and the water supply infrastructure.
The Health, Housing and Education are all estimated to reach $2 million dollars.
Vaniqi also added that two boats with relief supplies left yesterday afternoon headed for Vanua Levu.
A meeting yesterday was held where DISMAC briefed the Interim Government of their latest updates.
DISMAC is expected to comment later today.
